Do you also think that the current education system isn’t preparing us for the future or preparing us for something that isn’t as important as education institutions make us believe? We believe that it is the case, we don’t need to turn our little ones into nerdy book worms who can solve a theoretical question in a jiffy but would do anything to avoid a social convention.
We hear a lot about communication skills, leadership quality, and soft-skills development from people every day but how do we know our kids possess them. And Jesus Christ! if they don’t, then what one can do to work on his soft-skills development.
Book knowledge is important but it isn’t the most important thing and in order to solidify our statement we have a surprising fact to share with you. According to recent research conducted by the Manpower Group, 61% of the US-based companies have said in a survey that they like to prefer individuals with strong soft-skills over university toppers. The set of soft-skills include command over your communication skills, problem-solving ability, and collaboration/team-work quality, so if you are born them then you have no idea how many people will envy you but if don’t have them like the majority, then you may want to keep your academics aside for a while and consider working on your soft-skills development.
What exactly soft-skills mean?
As the name suggests, it is a set of attributes or characteristics that determine if a person can interact with other people flawlessly or not. The most valued soft skill in the market includes strong communication skill(Both oral and written), team-work ability, emotional level, empathy skills, and adaptability. The most amazing thing about the soft-skills is that majority of them are co-dependent, for instance, you can’t work in a team if you have a hard time adapting to new circumstances, you can’t empathize with someone if you don’t have the right listening skills. If someone is too afraid to say what he wants, he will never achieve what he wants and this void can only be filled with strong soft-skill development.
Why are they so important?
In short, no one hates a people pleaser or a person who enlightens the mood of the entire room as soon as he or she steps in. Take Steve Jobs for example, when he started Apple from his garage with his friend Steve Wozniak, he didn’t even know a single line of computer coding but when the Macintosh was released in 1984 it was Steve Jobs who presented the Mac in front of the press and Woz wasn’t even part of the Apple(How he left, that’s another story) but you get the notion right?
Steve Jobs may not know how to code but he knew what message he wanted to convey to his audience, how he wanted to present his idea of a better computer world. To this date, Steve Jobs remains one of the best presenters this world has ever seen. Better grades may help you become the most favorite kid in your class but you won’t be able to put them to use in front of the real world.
Conclusion
Be it sales, recruitment, sports, or any other industry you can think of, people who have been able to present themselves have always earned a special place in people’s hearts. That is how it works and that is how it is going to work till the judgment day. Start working on your soft-skills by participating in social conventions, increasing reading activities, and eventually you’ll see the world change around you.
